Four fishermen from the Bahamas were rescued Wednesday after being stranded at sea for five days.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the Royal Bahamian Defence Force reported that two small fishing boats carrying four men had launched from a larger fishing vessel but did not return Saturday, as they were supposed to.

The crew of a small plane spotted the fishermen and told the Coast Guard, which sent a plane to drop food and a communications radio to the fishermen, who had no food or water.

The Coast Guard sent a Jayhawk helicopter crew to the area where the fishermen were stranded, about 50 miles south of Andros Island, Bahamas. Crewmembers rescued the fishermen and took them to Nassau.
